New micro-spectrophotometer for measurement of UPF on textile fibre
Original language description
The measurement of Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of clothing can be performed by measuring the materials defuse transmittance in the ultraviolet (UV). A common textile additive known us an optical brightening agent (OBA or FWA), enhances a fabricsappearance trough optical effect of fluorescent. Ultraviolet spectrophotometer used to measure spectral transmittance can exhibit systematic errors when fluorescent samples are introduced. Common used of spectrophotometers are equipped by deuterium and halogen light sources. This combined spectrum does not relate to daylight, therefore optical response of textile materials with FWA is not adequate. New micro spectrophotometer is optimised to artificial daylight light source, which is approximately eq ualto D65 illumination. This device is adapted to measurement of textile fibres, yarns and fabrics. Our results show that spectral transmittance data of textiles are more reliable than spectral data from classical spectrophotometer. In our
