Substantial Reduct?on of Water Vapour Permeability of Semi-permeable Fabrics due to Absorbed Moisture

  • Original language description

In this work, a PERMETEST fast Skin model was used to simulate the cooling effect felt by a wearer of wet outer garments when the fabric is worn directly on the skin without gaps between the skin and the fabric. When the fabrics are wet, then the total relative cooling heat flow consists not only of the flow transferred through the fabrics, but also of flow caused by moisture evaporation from the fabric surface. t was found, that the cooling flow passing through the wet fabric is several times lower than the cooling flow felt by a skin of the garment wearer in case of direct fabric-skin contact. It means, that continuous water film on the wet fabric surface reduces drastically the water vapour permeability, up to 20times, if compared with the dry fabric permeability.
