STEREOSCOPY IN ANALYZING SEM IMAGES OF SOFT BODY ARMORS
Original language description
Scanning Electron Microscopy was used to observe the degree of material damage after ballistic testing of soft body armors also known as ballistic vests, bulletproof vests or bulletresistant vests. These are specific personal armors which can absorb anddisperse the impact energy that is transmitted to the ballistic panels from the bullet. Additional energy should be absorbed by the rest of material layer until the bullet is stopped. Main aim of this article is to show damage degree of two ballistic vests caused by typical testing in accordance with STANAG and NIJ US Standard. All bullet impacts were detected macroscopically to evaluate the trauma effect and SEM microscopy was applied to get high res images which were modified into stereoscopic anaglyphic pictures providing 3D view by using proper glasses.
