    Mechanical characterization of 3D woven composites with flyash nanocomposites

    The work is focused on study of the role of various fabric constructions engineered in three dimensions for improvement of properties of composites in thickness direction vis-?-vis to those composites designed after simply layering 2D fabrics on one another. The utilisation of low cost fillers like fly ash for improvement of mechanical properties of stacked fabric composites is also studied. The goal of producing uniform 3D fabrics by 2D weaving technique in continuous manner was achieved successfully by making few changes on the loom. The mechanical testing of regular composites revealed that 3D woven composites perform better in terms of energy absorption compared to layered 2D composite. All nano-composites show improved knife penetration resistance. However, addition of nanoparticle improved the breaking strength & energy of 2D plain woven composite to the maximum.
