Presentation at 7th Aachen-Dresden international textile conference, 2013, Aachen. The article is focused on mechanical properties of composite materials made of knitted basalt reinforcement and a polyester matrix. The major interest is in dependency ondirection of knitted layers regarding to the strain direction. The subjects of the testing were composites with one or two knitted layers and with two knitted layers with added third middle woven layer. The samples were tested by means of the three pointbending test, the impact test and by the scanning electorn microscope.
