Novel method to produce high stiffness cotton fabric
Original language description
Starch is used to stiffen the fabric but it does not give permanent stiffness to fabric because while washing the starch goes with water and need to reapply starch after each washing. In order to make fabric stiffen permanently, the new method is developed by coating of cellulose on to cotton fabric. In this method cellulose solution was prepared by dissolving cellulose in Urea-Thiourea-NaOH-Water solution. The prepared cellulose solution was applied on to the surface of cotton fabric by roller padding.Padded cotton fabric was washed with dilute HCl and water. Treated cotton fabric was pressed by ironing. The result of air permeability and SEM shows the surface is coated with cellulose. Stiffness of cotton fabric was significantly increased by this method and it was measured on TH7 instrument.
