CELLULOSE SOLUTION TO INCREASE STIFFNESS OF COTTON FABRIC PERMANENTLY

  • Original language description

In order to make cotton fabric stiffen permanently, new method was developed by applying cellulose solution on the surface of cotton fabric. Cellulose was dissolved in Urea-Thiourea-NaOH-water solvent system to prepare cellulose solution. Prepared cellulose solution was applied on the surface of cotton fabric by roller padding. Padded cotton fabric was washed with dilute HCl and water till neutralisation and then fabric was dried in hot air oven at 800c. After drying, treated cotton fabric was pressed by ironing. The results of air permeability and SEM showed that surface was coated with cellulose. Stiffness of cotton fabric was significantly increased by this method and it was measured on TH7 instrument. Stiffness was permanent and it was confirmed bywashing study.
