THERMAL RESISTANCE OF CUT PILE CARPETS
Original language description
Carpets are soft floor coverings serving aesthetic as well as functional purposes and are installed in residential as well as comercial buildings. One of the functions served by carpets is to provide thermal insulation to keep warmth inside the room. Thepresent research work aims at investigating the thermal transmission properties of hand tufted cut pile carpets. A theoretical model is developed using simple network of thermal resistances of components including the thermal resistances of the surfacepile and primary backing fabric. ALAMBETA semi-automatic non destructive thermal tester was used to measuered thermal resistance and cut pile carpets made from nylon pile yarns were studied. Theoretical values were compared with the measured values and it was observed that the developed model could give consistent results.
