This research deals with the effect of ply twist, its direction and number of plies on air jet plied yarn properties. It was found that when plying air jet yarns in a direction which is similar to single yarn wrapper fibers twist direction, yarn irregularity, imperfections and hairiness improve while plying in the opposite direction of the single yarn wrapper fibres resulted in reducing twist liveliness and improving yarn tenacity. Regarding the effect of ply twist, by increasing ply twist, yarn abrasion resistance and hairiness improves while tenacity improves to an optimum level then tenacity deteriorates. This optimum twist level varies according to ply yarn twist direction. 3 plied yarns are better than 2 plied yarns in terms of tenacity and it isconfirmed that 3 plied yarns has better evenness than 2 plied yarn. Considering yarn tenacity, air jet yarns should be twisted in opposite direction of their single yarn twist direction.
