Evaluation of Flammability and Thermal Stability Features of Cotton Fabric Modified with Novel and Ecofriendly Intumescent Flame Resistance Coatings of Milk Casein
Original language description
It is well explained in the literature the different binding and film forming properties of milk casein. To exploit this peculiarity of milk casein (a phosphoprotein), it was applied as novel green finishing material onto cotton fabric to assess its flammability and thermal stability properties. Cotton fabrics was treated with different concentrations of milk casein solutions by using the industrial applicable method. The thermal stability, flame retardancy and combustion behavior of the control and finished cotton fabrics were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis, limited oxygen index and flame test. The improvement in flame retardant behavior was observed with an increase of total burning time of casein treated cotton fabrics with a higher production of thermally stable intumescent char residues.
