The main objective of this research work is to investigate the improvement in thermal resistance performance of the flame retardant cotton fabric treated with milk casein, a biopolymer-based flame retardant. Milk casein (a phosphoprotein) was applied, as a green flame retardant finishing material, on the cotton fabric through aqueous solutions by using an industrially applicable method. For estimating the thermal protective performance, casein treated cotton fabrics were exposed to a radiant heat source at a specific radiant heat flux density Q0 (kW/m2). The lower values of transmitted heat flux density Qc (kW/m2) and heat transmission factor TFQ0 (%) were observed for the casein treated cotton fabric samples as compared to untreated cotton fabric.
