Filtration Performance of New Antimicrobial Ultrafiltration Membranes

  • Original language description

Membrane fouling is a serious problem limiting widespread application of membrane technology in field of water and wastewater treatment. There are several ways how to minimize membrane fouling and improve long-term membrane performance. Modification of commercial membranes, e.g. by nanofibres or silver particles in the nanometre size-range can led to the required long-term membrane permeabilities and antimicrobial features. The main goal of this study was, therefore, to compare the filtration performance of commercially available ultrafiltration membrane NADIR? UP 150 modified by silver in different forms. Covalently bound silver, absorption of silver together with subsequent reduction and silver-containing nanofibers was used for this modification. Besides that, further task was to determine advantages and disadvantages of newly modified membranes, and based on the obtained data to determine their possible applicability in the real application in wastewater treatment. The modified mem
