New Approach in Membrane Surface Modification by Nanosilver
Original language description
In spite of numerous advantages of membrane technology, there are still some drawbacks limiting its widespread application in the field of water and wastewater treatment. The most serious problem is fouling of membrane surface. Several ways how to minimize membrane fouling and improve long-term filtration performance have been tested so far. Modification of commercial membranes by silver in the nanometre size-range can be a promising option for achieving long-term membrane permeabilities and antimicrobial features. The main goal was to compare the filtration performance of commercially available ultrafiltration membrane NADIR UP 150 that was modified by silver in different forms. Original membrane surface was functionalized with polyethyleneimine-capped nanosilver, sorption of silver followed by its subsequent reduction, and silver-containing nanofibers. The modified membranes were compared to unmodified one. To determine the changes in permeabilities of newly modified membranes, all m
