Phenotypic variability of barley resistance and powdery mildew population
Original language description
To date, more than 100 resistance genes of Hordeum vulgare to Blumeria graminis f.sp hordei have been described. There are a lot of cultivars and lines with unknown resistances. Moreover, there are several extensive collections of Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum where a large number of powdery mildew resistances could be identified. In 2000, air samples of the B.g.h. population from the teritory of the Czech Republic have been studied. Based on virulence for 12 genes, 137 pathotypes were distinguished among 331 isolates. The high diversity and high virulence complexity of the population are results of adaptation of the pathogene on the resistances, which have been used in barley cultivars grown for the last several decades.
