Two trial weld joints of creep resistant 9Cr-1Mo-V steel used for production of steam pipes and cast components of steam power plants were undergone long-term creep testing at a temperature range from 525 °C to 625 °C.Up to 575 °C the creep resistance ofthe both weld joints ranges in recommended 20% scatter band of the creep rupture strength of the base material; at 600 °C and 625 °C it falls below the bottom of this scatter band. A critical region is a fine grain heat affected zone of the base material. Causes of the preferential creep failure in this region are a relatively high density of coarse particles of secondary phases at grain and subgrain boundaries and a low density of fine intragranular precipitate, which is gradually resolved and is replaced with Z-phase particles.
