This paper investigates the impact of change in exchange rate on bilateral trading flows between countries of Visegrad Group and their major trading partners. Depreciation of a currency worsens the trade balance before improving it, resulting in a J-curve pattern. This paper investigates J-curve phenomenon using quarterly data over the period 1997:1 to 2011:4. In this paper is applied Johansen cointegration test to analyse the long run relationship between exchange rate and trade balance. Short term effects and the related J-curve effect is explored by estimating error correction model and by assessing the impulse-response function. In models are included bilateral export and import flows, GDP of each respective country and bilateral exchange rates. J-curve was revealed just for Czech Republic and its major partners Germany and Poland. For trade balance between Poland and Great Britain was revealed inverse J-curve.
