Development and Application of Videokymography for High-Speed Examination of Vocal-Fold Vibration
Original language description
Videokymography has been developed as a cost-effective high-speed method for examination of vocal fold vibrations. The method is based on a modified CCD video camera. In the standard mode, the camera provides standard views of the vocal folds. In the high-speed mode, the camera delivers signal from just a single line of the whole image. The high-speed line images are put below each other to compose a new videokymographic image showing the vibratory pattern of the selected part of the vocal folds. The standard as well as the high-speed images can be transmitted, recorded and monitored using standard video equipment (video monitors, VCRs, etc) which makes the method costfriednly. The videokymographic images provide detailed information on different vibratory patterns in different voice qualities such as the pulse/creaky, modal and falsetto registers. The method has also been used clinically to obtain more detailed information about pathologic vocal fold vibrations.
