Prospective randomized evaluation of efficacy and safety of cluster ECG-based versus linear ablation for long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation

  • Original language description

Purpose: Effectiveness and possible deleterious effects of cluster ECG-based ablation versus linear ablation during extensive ablative therapy for long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation (LSPAF) have remained unknown. This prospective randomized study investigated, as a part of the study endpoints, efficacy of the two ablation strategies in terminating AF andrestoring sinus rhythm (SR), and incidence of inadverent isolation/activationdelay of the left atrial appendage (LAA). Conclusions: Both extensive abaltion stategies equally effectively terminated AF/restored SR. Limited controlled anterior linear lesion as opposed to the cluster ECG-based septal/LA anterior wall abaltion appears less risky for creation of inadvertent LAA activation delay.
