On the connection between wind tunnel experiment and simulation of turbine cascade
Original language description
Computational Mechanics 2025 - Conference Proceedings The work deals with numerical simulation of transonic flow through a profile cascade representing turbine rotor blade section near the tip and its connection to data acquired in wind tunnel measurements. Basic simulation method considers periodic configuration of blades (infinite cascade) which is expected to be closest approximation of real turbine cascade. On the other hand the wind tunnel experiment is limited to relatively small number of blades and is influenced by wave reflections from tunnel boundaries [4]. In order to get insight into various error factors we consider numerical simulations in three formulations: periodic cascade, 2-dimensional cascade of the center-plane of the wind tunnel, and 3-dimensional cascade in wind tunnel with side walls.
