Training stress is a key precursor and indicator of overtraining syndrome (OTS), a condition that significantly affectsthe physical and psychological health of athletes and leads to decline in performance. While previous research hasextensively examined gender differences in general coping with stress, the specific context of training stress as anindicator of OTS remains understudied. This study focuses on differences in training stress levels between menand women and between athletes in individual and team sports and provides insight into potential vulnerability toOTS.This cross-sectional study involves 306 Czech performance athletes aged 18 to 30, representing both individualand team sports. The Training Distress Scale was utilized to assess levels of training stress. The study aims toidentify patterns of training stress across genders and sport types, providing valuable insights into their role asindicators of overtraining and its associated risks.Preliminary findings reveal significant differences in training stress, with females showing higher levels than males.Athletes in individual sports consistently report greater training stress compared to athletes in team sports. Inaddition, the results suggest that women in individual sports are particularly vulnerable, with higher levels of trainingstress being associated with OST symptoms.These results emphasize the need for tailored monitoring and intervention strategies to mitigate training stress andits associated risks, promoting both physical and psychological well-being in athletes.
