Partial discharge (PD) activity measurement is modern, progressive diagnostic method used in diagnosis of large rotating machines, transformers, GIS, cables, etc. However current measurement of PD activity is limited to measure apparent charge Q only. Hence the paper is focused on problematic if the measurement of apparent charge only is sufficient or not. This issue is supported by practical experiments and the alternatives and new ways are offered at the end of the paper.
