Visual effects of degradation processes on electrical insulation : electrical tree phenomena
Original language description
The paper deals with the visual effects of degradation processes affecting electrical equipment with a focus on electrical insulation systems. Electrical voltage is causing erosive effects and when subjected to long exposures it disrupts the structure of insulating material, which is usually not visible. However, if experiment with transparent insulating material (eg, epoxy resin) is performed, it is possible to observe these signs of erosion and draw conclusions for insulating systems, which are not transparent. The article describes the creation of the discharge channel, depending on the mechanism of breakdown.
