MODELING OF SURGE ARRESTERS DURING TEMPORARY OVERVOLTAGE CONDITIONS IN ALTERNATIVE SIMULATION TOOLS
Original language description
Nowadays, a wide range of simulation tools has been used for modeling overvoltage conditions in electric power systems. Suitable models of surge arresters have been developed to achieve sufficient level of calculation accuracy. One of the most commonly used tools is EMTP-ATP. Simulation software package Simulink has only a simple model of a surge arrester implemented in its libraries. For these purposes, an unconventional simulation tool DYNAST can be also applied. In this paper, the surge arrester model is created in DYNAST and compared with the models included in EMTP-ATP and Simulink. Performance of individual models is tested on simulations of temporary overvoltage conditions in the distribution network. Internal structure of each model and employed computational methods are also described and evaluated in terms of solution accuracy.
