Electrical efficiency of induction furnace with cold crucible with varied number of rectangle segments

  • Original language description

A cold crucible and its constructions have been known for many years but the search for an ideal design is still an actual topic. The goal of the study is to determine the optimum number of segments of the furnace with the cold crucible with regard to the lowest power losses in the segments and the inductor. The comparison of the geometrical arrangement with a different number of segments was made by using numerical simulation in multiphysics software ANSYS. The article investigates the power losses inside of the thin slice in the axial center of the model (the smallest symmetric part of the cold crucible) with varied number of rectangle segments. The reason for this is to avoid the influence of the axial component of the current density in the axial ends of the segment. The results show that the power losses in the load and in the inductor are almost the same with increasing number of segments but the power losses in the segments are growing rapidly. It means that with increasing numb
