Analysis of delayed current zero occurrence within generator fed faults
Original language description
This paper discusses the possibility of occurrence of interrupted breaking due to the delayed current zero crossings. The analysis is aimed at a certain and specific application -- the main current branch of power output out of power plant. Breaking conditions change along with actual fault location and the configuration of the fault circuit and passive parameters (R, L, C) of it's elements. The paper evaluates the danger of interrupted breaking with emphasis on longer time intervals between current zeros and it's connection to reduced breaking capability in limitary areas of breaking characteristics due to longer arcing time, which can lead to total failure of the circuit breaker. The evaluation also contains the comparison between breaking characteristics of standard distribution circuit breakers and generator circuit breakers and detailed description of influence of each element on delayed current zeros.
