Topologies for Cooperation of 25kV Traction Substations with Rail Active Balancer and Phase Shifting Device
Original language description
This paper is concerned with topology selection, and description of operating states, for the next generation of AC 25kV traction substation (TSS) with electronic advanced rail balancer (ARB). The first part describes the commonly used TSS topologies and their properties. The second part is mainly focused on ARB topology (TSS with active balancer and phase shifting device). The main benefit of this part is a presentation of perspective topologies of the phase shifting device (PSD), focused on explaining the advantages and disadvantages of selected solutions. The selection is according to cost-effective solutions that mean a combination of transformers and power converters. The third part focused on a practical example of the chosen current state of TSS topologies, used at common traction catenary 25kV / 50Hz in the Czech Republic. The primary purpose is future use for the reconstruction of the traction catenary with a final goal as a uniform traction catenary (catenary without neutral sections – dead zones with minimal nonsymmetrical grid withdrawal).
