The work of Aaron W. Schmitt deals with the part of the temple area of the ancient Assyrian city of Aššur which is an extraordinary place in many respects - the site of the temple of the goddess Ištar and the temple of the god Nabu. During Assyrian history, there were built several temple buildings in this place, and its chief dweller - the goddess Ištar-aššuritu - occupied a distinctive position in the Assyrian pantheon. The area of temples of Ištar and Nab? is the best documented part of the city of Aššur but despite that ? or maybe because of that ? there arise a number of questions which can?t be satisfactorily answered.
