Sextus Empiricus : how we practice philosophy
Original language description
According to Sextus we should not practice philosophy - φιλοσιφειν - as the other Hellenistic philosophers suggested. But to be able to practice philosophy we should first realize what philosophy is. To be able to do this Sextus start questioning all the philosophical theories of his time suggesting that we should first analyze the types of knowledge. With the method of his skepticism he concluded that the nature of philosophy is to explain everything around us. From the matters of simple things of our every day life until the meanings of spirit and soul. My point of view is that through Sextus philosophical skepticism eventually the practice of philosophy is driven into a negative thought because if we see his arguments. We conclude that most of the times he contradicts to his arguments and he concluded nothing at all.
