Using the rasch analysis to improve evaluation of ball handling skills
Original language description
The purpose of this paper is to show how the Rasch model of Item Response Theory can be used to improve analysis of human movement e. g. the ball handling skills. The ball handling skills are important for both performance in physical education and performance in sport games. Many physical educators and coaches consider these skills to be the most important motor skills in motor development because they are the cornerstones of many games and activities. The ability to evaluate them is a critical teaching and coaching skill. The Rasch model should help to recognize the difficult critical features of the movement. Three hundred and fifteen children took part in this study (154 boys, 161 girls, age ranged from 5.98 to 10.76 years). The data were taken from Test of Gross Motor Development - 2. It has been found that applying the Rasch model can be both simple and practical since in its terms the most difficult critical features of ball handling skills were clearly identified.
