At present the Czech Republic is experiencing effects of the global recession, which, in the past three years, significantly affected the development of main macroeconomic indicators. From the standpoint of institutional economics, an institutional formis one of the crucial factors which substantially influence economic efficiency of individual national economies. Institutions play an important role in the social structure and they shape rules regulating mutual relations between individual market subjects (individuals, firms, social groups, or similar). The aim of this paper is to examine the role of ethical behaviour on the basis of the economic theory dealing with preconditions for functioning of perfectly and imperfectly competitive markets (especially markets with absolute monopolies and oligopolies).
