The Generalized Riemann Problem Approach for Long-Wave Tsunami Propagation

  • Original language description

The appropriate model for the long-wave tsunami propagation over the surface of deep oceans is analyzed in this paper. Our considerations are based on two-dimensional nonlinear shallow water equations. The numerical model is based on Godunov-type finitevolume approach. This approach uses an essential property of hyperbolic PDEs, namely wave propagation information, to construct the numerical schemes [LeVeque (2002)]. To achieve more accurate results, we extend Godunov schemes to high-resolution solversin the framework of the second-order generalized Riemann problem method [Ben-Artzi and Falcovitz (2003)]. The main contribution is that when the surface gradient method [Zhou et al. (2001)] is incorporated into the data reconstruction step, this approach is well-balanced between the flux gradient and bottom bathymetry and hence suitable for the long-rang propagation of small-amplitude tsunamis through the ocean. The numerical experiments estimate the accuracy of the model.

    Rekonstruční metody pro výpočtovou tomografii
