XSLT Templates for Thematic Maps
Original language description
Computer technologies gain ground in the cartography. But it could be told that a support or an implementation of wide spectrum of cartographic interpretation methods is ranked among weak points of majority of computer systems focused on spatial data visualisation. This paper tries to fill this gap. It presents XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) templates and their control file designed for the generating of some types of thematic maps (e.g. different types of choropleth maps or diagram maps). The XSLT language were selected base on following reasons: Very good cooperation with all XML (Extensible Markup Language) standards, including the format GML (Geography Markup Language) for spatial data describing and the format SVG (ScalableVector Graphics) for vector graphics describing. XSLT is standardised by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). XSLT is strongly supported by many software products, e.g. XSLT processors, XML editors or web page browsers. The applications creat
