Upper extremity musculoskeletal model
Original language description
The aim of this study is to make a computer model of an upper extremity of the human body for determination of muscle forces generated to keep a given loaded position. Model consists of three segments (arm, forearm, hand) and of all major muscles fixed to the segments. Muscle origins and insertions correspond to the real anatomy. Muscle behavior is defi ned according to the Hill-type model consisting of contractile and viscoelastic element. The upper extremity represents a system of three rigid segmentsconnected by rotational joints. The segments are set in spatial. The musculoskeletal system is underdetermined. It means that more muscles contribute to get the concrete position than it is necessary. Hence this problem must be solved by an optimizationmethod fi nding the least energetically-consuming solution. The human model is verifi ed by a method called electromyography through measured responses of a biceps brachia muscle.
