Description of protein secondary structure using dual quaternions
Original language description
The geometrical description of protein structure is one of the standard tasks in structural biology. Hence, a simple method is presented to describe this structure. The secondary structure of proteins is the speci?c geometric shape and the description uses Chasles? theorem, which states that any rigid body displacement can be described by a screw motion. Therefore, the algorithm based on dual quaternions can be used and it will be shown that dual quaternions are an important tool to describe the orientation of a molecules. Consequently, the application of the algorithm is shown for standard protein structure.
