Influence of rotor unbalance on dynamic response of high-speed rotors
Original language description
Certain high-speed rotors consist of a few different parts. Though each part is balanced before the rotor is assembled, the whole assembly can be unbalanced. The potential unbalance is usually caused by clearance spaces between individual components, e.g. between a shaft and a bladed wheel. This paper deals with different types of rotor unbalance and their influence on dynamic response of the mechanical system consisting of a rotor, a stator and floating bearing rings. A steady-state response of differently unbalanced rotors is computed using multi-body software AVL EXCITE Power Unit. Furthermore, it is shown that the unbalance has only limited influence on subharmonic components of the response of such a mechanical system and even perfectly balanced systems can vibrate considerably. This behavior is caused by plain bearings with two oil films.
