This article deals with the issue how to test the quality of novice programmers' software assignments. This problem is becoming serious due to the hundreds of students in the introductory courses of programming. The article discusses the motivation for using quality of implementation tests of students' programmes, their principles and a practical solution. So called "duck tests" are used for this type of validation. A combination of a framework Duckapter, JUnit library and own programmes constitutes thepractical solution. It is represented by a self-contained tool which is freely at disposal. The described tool has been used for three years in the elementary course of object oriented programming based on the Java programming language, alongside threeother tools used for automatic validation of students projects. The article discusses the experience gained from its use and the effects on student's programming skills.
