Multiscale blood flow modelling as a means for noninvasive quantification of hemodynamically significant carotid artery stenoses

  • Original language description

The content of the study is focused on multiscale modelling of pulsatile non-Newtonian blood flow in patient-specific models of complete carotid bifurcations. The modelled inlet and outlet flow parameters, especially those of outlet three-element Windkessel models, are estimated on the basis of available in-vivo measurements provided by the courtesy of the University Hospital Pilsen. The process of parameter estimation is carried out by utilising corresponding 1D/0D models of the carotid bifurcations. For the assessment of the physiological significance of atherosclerotic lesions present in the reconstructed models, a novel non-invasive variant of the fractional flow reserve (FFR) method known as FFR CT is used.
