Original language description
Aim of the project was development of metal barrier coating with high melting point to prevent LME (Liquid Metal Embrittlement). Zinc assisted LME has recently become an important issue for AHSS (Advanced High Strength Steel). One of the solution to suppress LME is the prevention of direct contact of liquid Zn into AHSS matrix. For this purpose we have performed research for low cost coating materials for economic feasibility (Al, Cu, Ti, Ag, STS, etc.) which can serve barrier layer. We utilized conventional magnetron sputtering and high power impulse magnetron sputtering as methods for barrier and Zn coating deposition. As the outcome of the project we have found out that Cu and Ag interlayers (even very thin) are good candidates to prevent Zn assisted LME on AHSS.
