Screw expander: The expansion solver
Original language description
The possibility to use screw motors for utilization of waste heat was studied with the main aim to analytically describe the geometry of a chosen screw motor and to solve the expansion of the working medium within. In this context, the present conference paper introduces initial ideas of a 0-D expansion process solver, based on adiabatic process of the ideal gas model. After numerical experiments and followed by validation using experimental data, major shortcomings of the simplest 0-D model became apparent. Therefore, it was necessary to introduce an improved computational model for solving the expansion process inside a screw motor. The obtained results showed that the improved model is able not only to overcome the aforementioned shortcomings but also to achieve qualitatively comparable results with the measured data.
