Vibration analysis of a vertical rotor immersed in fluid at extreme operating temperatures

  • Original language description

This work deals with the vibration analysis of a special purpose vertical rotor composed of several rotating subsystems and supported by journal and rolling element bearings. The rotor is immersed in a solution of lead and lithium, which is warmed up to 600 °C. The solution is very dense, but its dynamic viscosity is similar to water at room temperature. Therefore, it can be used as a lubricant in the journal bearings. However, its high density and temperature adversely affect the rotor dynamics. In order to incorporate all relevant forces and phenomena, the modelling methodology is based on the flexible multibody dynamics approach implemented in AVL Excite software. The primary purpose of this work is to evaluate the suitability of the rotor’s design and propose design changes if needed.
