Original language description
Nanocomposite coatings represented a new generation of materials. They are composed of at least two separated phases with a nanocrystalline and/or amorphous structure. Nanocomposite materials, due to very small (of about 10 nm and smaller) grains and a more significant role of boundary regions which surround individual grains, behave in a different manner compared to conventional materials with grains greater than 100 nm and exhibit completely new properties. New unique properties of nanocomposite coatings are a main driving force stimulating the development of these materials.
