Mechanical activation of fly ash and slag as a method to high performance binder development
Original language description
This study is aimed for investigation of fly ash and slag recycling to a constructional binder with suitable properties for the civil engineering needs. The fly ash, obtained from Czech brown coal power plant Prunerov II and raw milled calcium rich slagwere used as the representatives of one of the most abundant category of industrial byproducts. Because of poor reactivity of raw fly ashes, the mechanical activation of the fly ash and the fly ash - slag mixture was used. With this process, the suitableparticle size for alkaline activation of hardening process was reached after 150 minutes of mechanical activation. The hardening process by alkaline activation is chemical reaction driven by dissolution of aluminosilicate content of fly ash and by subsequent development of inorganic polymeric network, simply called geopolymer. Benefit of calcium rich slag addition is in incorporation of calcium ions in the structure of inorganic polymer and in improvement of mechanical properties. Diffe
