Finite element analysis of supracondylar periprosthetic femoral fracture treatment
Original language description
The goal of this study is to compare the behaviour of three implants used to fixate the fracture in the extra-articular part of distal femur with a total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Models of a distal femoral nail, a dynamic condylar screw and an angled blade plate were integrated into a finite element model of femur with implemented TKA and a simple extra-articular fracture was modelled in the distal part of femur. The femoral head was loaded by a force corresponding to the load during one foot stand. The von Mises stress distribution in the implants and the displacement of femur in all three main directions were analysed for all three implants.
