State of art coulometric electrochemical detection in the analysis of food and biological samples for medical diagnosis

  • Original language description

Coulometric technology in electrochemical detection in HPLC was developed by Wayne R. Matson as a unique tool for monitoring of electroactive compounds. Reason of this inventory was to develop the method for measurement of neurotransmiters in brain of children suffering from lead poisoning. Principal features of coulometric detection are porous through-flow graphite electrodes and dry referent hydrogen-palladium electrode which made possible to build up in-line reactor resisting up to 6000 psi called guard cell for cleaning mobile phase before injection of analyte. [1] CoulArray with 16 channels which is formed by 4 blocks of cell (all include 4 channels). Coulometric array technology is used with high performance liquid chromatography. Compounds are initially separated by using HPLC column and then identified based on their retention time as well as their electrochemical behaviour across the electrode array.CoulArray is only electrochemical detector which can be used in gradient HPLC.
