Green fluorescent protein - a proven tool for the laboratory assessment of transformation events and a promising instrument for the monitoring of GM crops.
Original language description
Genetic transformation is a subject of intensive research, including the identification and cloning of important genes, the development of the most effective strategies for insertion of these genes into the host genome and the selection of the transformation events most likely to result in future GM organisms (GMOs). Fundamental research on the development of GMOs is the subject of considerable global interest, as are also studies concerning their safety to human and animal health and their possible ecological impacts on the environment and current agro-ecosystems, reflecting the demands of regulatory authorities and the public. Therefore, intensive research based on the use of well-proven plant species, as well as other organisms, plays its part in GMcrop development and its introduction to the environment and market, with the aim of addressing various questions relating to its biosafety and risk assessment. The use of ?model? or ?marker? genes can allow for the rapid and efficient a
