Cohousing as a prevention of social exclusion of seniors
Original language description
The aim of the qualitative research was to identify the pros and cons of living in senior cohousing. The research group consisted of representatives from 7 cohousing communities from different European countries. A qualitative research strategy was used a technique of semistructured interview. The obtained data were processed by the method of open, axial and selective coding, then by partial methods of capturing formulas and contrasting, using the program Atlas.ti 7, intended for qualitative data processing. It is clear that living together and aging in the community has many benefits. It is also a prevention of the social exclusion of seniors and a good way of active aging. In conclusion, cohousing is a form of housing and cohousing for seniors can be considered as an active preparation for old age and aging. Coexistence with other people, sharing different activities and informal neighborly help is a good preventive means of social exclusion.
