Ethics and natural law: Wolffianism in Prague 1750-1773
Original language description
This article examines the ethical thought of Jesuit eclectics who are now considered to be the first exponents of Wolffian philosophy. It sums up Christian Wolff's ethics to see whether any elements of this philosophy were present in the works of Pragueand Viennese Jesuits who shunned from peripatetic philosophy after the reforms of 1752/1754. Whereas some of them quoted Wolff or applied ideas similar to Wolff without quoting him, the main principle of their moral philosophy was the old-style natural law which was based on Catholic authorities and not on Wolff.
