The chapter explores the Neo-Pragmatic view of interpretation and concentrates on Richard Shusterman’s attempt to distinguish between interpretation and understanding, developed into his plea for simple amateurish reading that aims at mere understanding. Wolfgang Iser’s analysis of the processof reading has been also involved since it offers ideas that gets in touch with the philosophy and literary theory of Neo-Pragmatic type.
