In the years 1996 - 2000 we studied the questions of applying suitable grass and clover species and varieties in temporary pasture swards at their exploitation by beef cattle breed (Hereford) at submontane region of the Šumava mountains. According to verification of a collection of early, middle and late maturity mixtures (altogether 16 vars.) the best combination at application fertilisation dose of 140 kg N+PK, from the phytocenologic, productive and qualitative points of view, seems to be an (1) early maturity mixture - Dactylis glomerata Niva (50 %) + Lolium perenne Algol (10 %) + Poa pratensis Slezanka (10 %) + Trifolium repens Hájek (30 %); (2) a middle early mixture - Festulolium Hykor (50 %) + Lolium perenne Algol (10 %) + Poa pratensis Slezanka (10 %) + Trifolium repens Hájek (30 %); (3) a late mixture Lolium perenne Mustang (50 %) + Phleum pratense Sobol (10 %) + Poa pratensis Slezanka (10 %) + Trifolium repens Hájek (30 %).
