A review of edible mushroom radioactivity
Original language description
The review deals mainly with the situation in Europe where wild growing mushrooms are widely consumend as a delicalcy and some species have been found to be existencively contaminated by radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl disanter in 1986. The matural isotope 40K usually sauses actives of 0.8-1.5 kBq kg -1 dry matther. Activites of 137Cs, from nuclears weaponds testing, below 1kBq kg-1 dry matther, were commonly reported until 1985. The situation changed dramatically after the Chernobyl accident andactivites up to tens of kBq kg -1 dry matter of 137 Cs were observed in the folloving years in some edible species. Among the heavily accumulating species belong Xerocomus (Boletus) badius, Xerotomus chrysenteron, Suillus variegatus. Rozites caperata andHydnum repandum. Activity concentrations have been affected by several envinromental factors, such as rate of soil contamination with fallout, the horizon from witch mycelium takes nutriens, soil moisture and time from the disaster.
